Vocations - Meet Our Seminarians
Tell us about your family.
I am the son of Deenna and Patrick McNicholas. I grew up in Chesterton IN and I am the oldest of 8 children, 3 sisters and 4 brothers.
Where are you from, and what is your home parish?
I was born in Chicago IL and my family moved to Chesterton IN soon after. I have grown up in Chesterton going to St. Patrick’s grade school and Chesterton High School. My home parish is St. Patrick. I have been involved as an altar server and a variety of other ministries at St. Patrick.
What seminary do you attend, and what year are you?
I am currently second Theology at Mundelein Seminary. I previously graduated from Bishop Simon Bruté seminary/Marian University in 2015 with a degree in Philosophy.
What is it that draws you to the possibility of priesthood?
I desire to be a bridge for people to encounter Christ and His Church. I believe that today people are desperately searching for the truth and answers to the bigger questions in life. Ultimately these question are answered when one enters into a relationship with Christ. I desire to make that encounter possible between people and Christ in the sacramental life of the church.
Who are some of your role models?
First my parents, there witness of what love is, which they show in their marriage and in their self-sacrificing love to their family. Second, Fr. Bob witnesses to me what it means to have a pastor’s heart. His love for the people that he serves permeates everything that he does. Third, the Missionaries of Charity, they are role models for me in their service to the poorest of the poor. They are St. Mother Teresa in this world today.
What is your favorite Scripture passage?
“Were not out hearts burning [within us] while he spoke to us on the way and opened the scriptures to us?” so they set out at once and returned to Jerusalem.”
