Athletic Director Position at Bishop Noll Institute
The duties and expectations of the Bishop Noll Institute Athletic Director are outlined below. These criteria provide the framework for an effective athletic leader whose responsibilities extend beyond managing athletics at the school. The Athletic Director is a visible student advocate and member of the Administrative Team. He/She is responsible for instilling Catholic Identity in all of our students and athletic programs. He/She oversees the management of all athletic facilities, coaches, and athletic programs. He/She must be knowledgeable and remain current in IHSAA rules and regulations. He/She will be accountable for any additional duties the principal feels are necessary to the success of Bishop Noll Institute and its athletic program.
Administration
- The Athletic Director reports to the school principal
- The Athletic Director works in cooperation with the assistant principal, dean, and administrative team.
- Works with the dean in supporting student management as it relates to athletic practices, games, and summer athletic programs
- Maintain accurate records and files for all employees, activities, finances/budgets
- Work with administrative team to identify ways to make the Athletic Department a greater revenue generating source for the school
- Serve as a networking agent in coordination with our Advancement department
- Be an available presence at Open Houses and other large scale recruitment events
- Assists with generally assigned supervision duties with dean or assistant principal
- Applies fairness and equity in making decisions as they relate to Bishop Noll Athletics-Decisions are to be based on what is best for the student athlete and his/her moral, social, physical and athletic development
Communication
- Promote a positive and professional attitude with the Bishop Noll community as well as with the media
- Instill and support Catholic Identity in all programs, students, and employees
- Maintain high expectations, sportsmanship, and excellence in all Bishop Noll’s athletic endeavors
- Communicates scores and information as needed for daily press and media
- Maintains school records and statistics
- Utilizes technology when communicating, keeping records, scheduling, marketing, scheduling, etc.
- Provide monthly reports for the school board
- Maintain communication with athletes that continue to compete on the college level; communicate their accomplishments as testament to the efforts of coaches on high school level
Compliance
- Attend all Conference meetings
- Follows all IHSAA and Bishop Noll policies and regulations-attends all necessary athletic meetings and ensures coaches do the same
- Monitors, communicates and ensures the eligibility of all student athletes
Development
- Support students’ post-secondary scholarship opportunities and coordinate these initiatives with our guidance office
- Organize Athletic Banquets to recognize the accomplishments of the student-athletes.
- Assists with intramural coordination when applicable
Fundraising
- Facilitates and leads an athletic parent organization to support programs, raise funds, and utilize volunteers (currently Blue & Gold Club) to meet the needs of Bishop Noll Institute as articulated by the board and administration.
- Coordinate, maintain, and document advertising sponsorships on school grounds.
Logistics
- Schedule all athletic contest, fields, and gym usage in coordination with the field house manager
- Hire all officials and support personnel for athletic contests
- Arrange, authorize, and present payment to officials and support personnel
- Maintain, manage and supervise all athletic facilities
- Supervise and attend athletic contests as needed-visibility is a priority
- Manage the concession program-develop system/plan
- Ensures pre-game set up and preparation: clocks, equipment, bleachers, etc.
- Supervises issuance and care of all athletic equipment
- Sees that athletic facilities are properly cleaned, maintained, and repaired
- Determines the ability to hold a contest with respect to weather and unforeseen circumstances
- Coordinates all athletic transportation needs
- Ensures availability of concessions at all events
Oversight
- Approve and direct fundraising efforts for coaches in accordance with guidelines set forth by Advancement Office
- Receives approval from the financial department prior to ANY athletic purchase--individual coaches are NOT to order materials
- Supervise and evaluate all coaches and athletic personnel; hiring and firing of coaches with final approval of the principal
- Ensure that all athletic personnel are Virtus trained and have clean background checks
- Ensure all coaches follow IHSAA rules and regulations-provide development when necessary
- Ensure all coaches are educated in CPR and general health regards: diabetes, hydration, FERPA, etc.
