Office of Stewardship

The Office of Stewardship works to implement the Pastoral Letter on Stewardship from the National Conference of Catholic Bishops. The Coordinator, in consultation with the Diocesan Stewardship Commission, has developed a Diocesan Stewardship Program that reflects the theology of the five part Pastoral Letter. The program titled “Stewardship: A Way of Life” is in both English and Spanish.  The content of the program includes:

  • Theology of Stewardship
  • Stewardship of Prayer
  • Stewardship of Time and Talent
  • Stewardship of Treasure
  • Stewardship for Children and Youth
  • Planned Giving

The Coordinator of the Office for Stewardship in collaboration with the Diocesan Stewardship Commission provides training and assistance to the parishes on an ongoing basis.  They also collaborate together to provide annually a Stewardship Renewal Day or evening for the parishes.

Diocesan Stewardship Commission

The goal of the Diocesan Stewardship Commission is to use their knowledge and faith   in stewardship, to nurture and encourage the parishes to help expand Christian Stewardship throughout the Gary Diocese.

To achieve their goal, the Commission members have developed a Stewardship Training Process to provide assistance and guidance to Parish Stewardship Commissions.  Training Teams have been formed to help parish Commission members understand that Stewardship is a process rooted in discipleship. Being a disciple is a total way of life that requires continuing conversion.  The Training Teams are lay men and women serving on the Diocesan Stewardship Commission who work with individual parishes seeking assistance.  The Team meets with the Pastor and members of the Parish Stewardship Commission to determine their needs, and to set a timeline for the training.  The Bishop’s Pastoral Letter on Stewardship titled:  “Stewardship: A Disciples Response”, and the Diocesan Stewardship process titled:  “Stewardship: A Way of Life” are used as the primary resources for the training.
