Chancery Staff

 The primary mission of the Chancery is to support the Bishop in the administration and overall implementation of the diocesan mission. It is called to serve, support, advise and inform the presbyterate, parishes, and institutions of the Diocese of Gary. The Chancery serves the needs of the people of God by being accessible and responsive to the concerns they may bring on a daily basis and to offer hospitality to all who approach the Pastoral Center.  

Anne Verbeke

Anne has a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education from Fontbonne College, St. Louis, MO, and a Master of Arts in Pastoral Studies from Catholic Theological Union at Chicago, IL. After graduation from Fontbonne College Anne taught high school and homebound students for two years in Boston, MA and Norfolk,VA. She later became a Religious Education Director in the Archdiocese of Michigan serving from 1968 to 1975. In 1976 she moved with her family to the Chicago area and became Director of Religious Education in the Archdiocese of Chicago serving until 1988. Anne came to the Diocese of Gary in 1989 as a Director of Religious Education, and in 1992 moved to the Pastoral Center to develop Parish Pastoral Councils. In 1997, in addition to being Coordinator of Pastoral Councils, she was made Coordinator of the Lay Ministry Formation Program. In 1998 she was asked to add to her role the Coordination of Stewardship.

Anne is a member of the National Association for Lay Ministry (NALM), the National American Forum for Small Christian Communities (NAFSCC) and Conference for Pastoral Planning and Council Development (CPPCD). She has been active in community organizations, with a special interest in those organizations that serve abused women and those that work for racial justice. Anne is married and has five married children and nine grandchildren.

LaVerne Releford

LaVerne Releford is the Systems Coordinator for the Pastoral Center. She came to the Pastoral Center with over 20 years of experience in the computer field.  Her responsibilities comprise of coordinating supplies and services for all automated equipment, computer hardware and software support, network administration, staff computer training and support, and maintaining the diocesan web site.
 

Secretarial Pool

The Secretarial Pool serves a special role in being available for all the diocesan offices’ needs. Their computer skills and cross-training enable them to work together to complete the variety of assignments they receive.

Volunteers

Our volunteers are greatly appreciated for the many hours of service they give at the Pastoral Center. Every week day William Poje makes sure mail delivery is covered either by himself or by Edward Denta and Jack Milaskey. Each week volunteers come into the Pastoral Center to copy, sort, stuff and post the mailings that go to the parishes and other jobs that are needed. These faithful helpers include: Ed Denta, Jeff Cagelja,Janice Higgins, Susan McCann, Robert McClellan, Jack Milaskey, Marcia Mizen, Joan Mulloy, Helen Nawrocki, Delores Pisani, Bill Poje, and Barb Watts..
