About the office

The primary function of the office is to coordinate the Bishop’s Annual Catholic Services Appeal.

Purpose of the office

The CSA Office oversees the general, everyday operation of the Bishop’s annual Catholic Services Appeal. The office is responsible for creating annual appeal materials, tracking all pledge information, and working with parish staff to ensure the smooth running of each year’s campaign. Additionally, the office coordinates the annual Bishop’s Guild dinner and creates the Guild newsletter.

General services

The office also works with the Diocesan commission on planned giving, serving as a resource to individuals interested in including the Diocese of Gary, an individual parish, or other Catholic organization in their estate plans. The office additionally works with the office of Catholic schools and other program offices in seeking funding for programs that serve to carry out the mission of the diocese.

Joyce Illyes
Coordinator of the Catholic Services Appeal

The coordinator has overall responsibility for the annual Catholic Services Appeal campaign and assists pastors and parishes with the planning and implementation of the annual appeal. The coordinator, in collaboration with the bishop, develops the theme and campaign materials for the annual appeal. The coordinator works in conjunction with the planned giving commission of the diocese to cultivate gifts to the Church. Additionally, funding for special projects is sought through grant writing activities.

Joyce has served at the diocesan Pastoral Center since 1997, working initially as the Secretary for the Office of Development. In January, 2001, she was named coordinator of the CSA. Additionally, she assists the Office of Stewardship and the Office of Worship for all diocesan functions. Joyce completed the Lay Ministry Formation Program in May 2000. She is the chair of the committee for ongoing formation for those who have completed the LEM program. In May 2006 she received a Master of Arts in Pastoral Studies degree from Catholic Theological Union in Chicago.

An active member of Ss. Peter & Paul Parish in Merrillville, Joyce is the chair of the stewardship commission and coordinates the environment and art at the parish. She has been a covenanted associate of the School Sisters of Notre Dame, Milwaukee Province since 1998.
