Welcome to the Diocese of Gary Vocation Office website! As Bishop of the Diocese of Gary, I am happy to invite you into deeper discernment of a priestly vocation. Through the information in the pages of this website and the witness of our 9 seminarians, I hope that you will more clearly hear God's call to priestly ministry in the Diocese of Gary.
I recognized God’s call to the priesthood through the faithful and joyful example of my associate pastor. After more than 40 years of ordained priestly ministry, God continues to strengthen me with the desire to joyfully share His message of reconciliation and freedom with Catholics in the Diocese of Gary.
God is blessing the Diocese of Gary in many and varied ways. In particular, through the prayerful support of priests, religious, and the laity, more men are responding to the call to the priesthood. Today, we have 9 seminarians and in June 2008, we ordained three zealous and prayerful men to the transitional diaconate -- the largest ordination class in recent years!

Through the grace of the Sacrament of Holy Orders, priests stand in the person of Christ and announce His unrelenting love for humanity. Your willingness to discern the call to ordained priestly ministry indicates that you are open to God's call. Jesus wants to continue His mission of reconciliation and forgiveness through you.
Priestly ministry in the Diocese of Gary is powerful and meaningful. The racial, economic, and ethnic diversity of Northwest Indiana offers an abundance of opportunities to minister to the poor, the sick, the aged and those who experience discrimination. I invite you to participate in the responsibility to care for our people.
I pray for priestly vocations every day. You can be sure that I am praying for you. Please be generous in your response to God's call. I encourage men to consider the priestly vocation at every opportunity because I believe that God is calling many men to offer their lives to continue the healing and loving ministry of Jesus.
