	The cross journey began with a blessing and commissioning by Bishop Melczek at a Mass at the Pastoral Center. Bishop wore the same vestment given to U.S. Bishops for the Papal Mass in Washington, DC in April, a reminder of the CYX connection to World Youth Day with Pope Benedict XVI. During his homily, Bishop Melczek urged participating parishes to let the cross be present at times when both youth and adults are present, so that youth might be a catechizing witness to the adults of the parish. He also prayed that the days each parish/group spends with the cross might ignite a fire within teens, so that they might get even more excited about the time they'll spend at CYX! After Mass, the cross was delivered to nearby Our Lady of Consolation, Merrillville, the first leg of the journey.
