CYX 2008 Service Project...

After viewing an Oprah Winfrey special about kids caring for kids in the winter of 2004, Kendall Ciesemier (pronounced “CEASE-myer”) decided that she had to do something to help the 12 million AIDS orphans of Africa. She began by adopting a child through World Vision with her own annual contribution of $360. That year, as Kendall faced an upcoming liver transplant, she organized her effort, "Kids Caring 4 Kids", asking friends and family to send donations instead of flowers or gifts. Since her fundraising effort began, she has helped raise nearly $680,000 in donations, fast approaching her new fundraising goal of $1 million, which Kendall recently revealed on The Oprah Winfrey Show, where she was joined by Bill Clinton!

We want to help her cause! World Youth Day is a visable sign that Christ’s mission is alive around the globe, and so we want to play a small part in joining that mission.

At CYX check-in on Friday, July 18, we will be collecting money that will be sent directly to Kids Caring 4 Kids, Kendall’s charity. The funds go to support charitable organizations which help those who have been impacted by the AIDS pandemic in Africa (where AIDS has hit the hardest) and to those who strive to help children.

We hope that teens don’t merely ask their parents for a donation (although we certainly encourage that too!). Everyone attending CYX should consider giving whatever they can: $1, $5, $20, etc. Kendall has proven that even a little effort can make a big difference!
