Diocese of Gary Diocesan Youth Council

Dear Youth Council representative and parent/guardian:

Please allow me to extend my warmest welcome to you, a new member of our new Diocesan Youth Council!

The “DYC” returned to the Diocese of Gary in 2004 to regenerate enthusiasm for diocesan and parish Catholic youth ministry. It has indeed done just that! The DYC plays an integral role in the leadership of improved youth ministry throughout the diocese. In short, you will help shape the future of youth ministry!

Please review the "bylaws" to understand your commitment to this important peer ministry. Additionally, as a representative, I urge you to participate in as many diocesan-sponsored and/or affiliated events as possible.

We recognize time is a premium to the average teen. Nonetheless, understand that we ask that you take your commitment to DYC seriously, and rank it as a high priority. While we recognize you are involved in other extracurricular activities, and missing an occasional meeting is understandable, we ask that you place DYC as a high priority. Your attendance at meetings insures the flow of information to and from your parish or school. I pledge to give you as much advance notice of meetings and gatherings. If you feel you may have to miss too many meetings because of other commitments, we strongly urge you to consider giving up your spot to another representative from your parish.

Also, I have found internet/email to be the most efficient means of communication. While you will still receive mailings, the fastest and most efficient way to get all of the information about DYC is via email or at our website, www.dcgary.org/youth  (follow link at top to “Youth Council”). To ensure that you are on my email list, send a note to Kevin Driscoll at .

It is important for you to remember that you must bring permission forms to each and every meeting and gathering. Forms will be sent via mail, but you may also print forms at the website. Please understand that we do not require this to make your life miserable, but rather to ensure your safety!

Parents/guardians, please review the schedule, and help us to remind our DYC representatives about the importance of permission forms! Also, traveling is a necessary part of the DYC commitment. We trust you to make the best decisions for your teen in these regards. Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions or concerns during your child’s term on the DYC.

Directions, a schedule of upcoming meeting dates, and more are listed at this site.

I look forward to working with you to build the kingdom of God here in the Diocese of Gary!

Peace of Christ,

Kevin Driscoll
