Last Mass celebrated at St. Catherine of Siena in Hammond

Dozens of St. Catherine of Siena members, former parishioners and school alumni gathered for the parish's final Mass, presided by Bishop Robert J. McClory Sunday afternoon in Hammond.

Established in 1956, St. Catherine served Hessville neighborhoods until its school closed in 2009, and declining participation resulted in the church closure. Members were invited to attend other local parishes.

Bishop McClory quoted St. Catherine of Siena in his homily, "I am consumed with the desire to suffer for the glory of God and the salvation of souls and for the welfare of the Holy Church."
